Westfield High/Massacre

< Westfield High

WestfieldMassacre.png

In 1994, at Westfield High school, Tate Langdon murdered 15 people with a gun.[1] He also permanently handicapped a librarian, Mr Carmichael. In Tate's fantasies about the school shooting he wears a black hoodie, a Prussian blue American Civil War Union soldier coat and grim reaper make up. His hair is slicked back. In reality, he did wear the American Civil War Union soldier coat, but also a Black T-shirt and had his hair like he normally does. After the massacre, a "Wolverines Memorial Trust" was started in memory of the students.

Victims Edit

During Tate's sessions of describing his shooting fantasy, he is unaware that these events are from his memory. He states that he targets people he likes.[2]

Dead Breakfast Club Edit

Five of the fifteen victims pursue Tate and Violet on Halloween Night, 2011[4]. It was unclear as to whether they were dressed as zombies or were actually ghosts at first, since they could be wearing elaborate costumes and make up for Halloween. Violet, unaware of the massacre, did not pick up on the significance. She referred to them as the "Dead Breakfast Club"[5].

Kyle Greenwell Edit

Kyle was a football player for the Westfield Wolverines. He claims to have never met, or did not remember meeting, Tate. He had received a football scholarship for Georgia Tech, as was mentioned by both him and the "Victims of Westfield High Massacre Website". Kyle was with Chloe in the library when they heard the gunshots. He was shot directly above his eyes, and was the fourth to die in the library.

  • Kyle is portrayed by Brando Easton.
  • Kyle reappears in a flashback of the shooting in "Piggy Piggy".

Amir Stanley Edit

Amir, by appearances, seems to have been a nerdy student. He was on the computers in the library during the initial gunshots. He was the third person killed in the library. While on the phone trying to call for help, Tate shot him in the mouth/jaw. Amir's ghost cannot speak because of this injury. Kevin tells Tate that Amir could have accomplished great things with his life if he had lived. The "Victims of Westfield High Massacre Website" states that he was the Editor of the 1993 Westfield High Yearbook.

  • Amir is portrayed by Alexander Nimetz.
  • Amir reappears in a flashback of the shooting in "Piggy Piggy".

Chloe Stapleton Edit

Born 1977

Chloe was a cheerleader for the Westfield High Wolverines. After her murder, she says her parents divorced and moved away from Los Angeles. She was in the library, reading books with Kyle when she heard the first gunshot. She was the last to be shot by Tate, tearfully begging him to not kill her as she urinated due to the horror. She was shot directly in the heart. When she runs into Tate on the beach, she says that if she were still alive, she would be 34. The "Victims of the Westfield High Massacre'" website states that she was on the Varsity Squad.

  • Chloe is portrayed by Ashley Rickards.
  • Chloe reappears in a flashback of the shooting in "Piggy Piggy".

Stephanie Boggs Edit

Stephanie claims that during the shooting Tate asked her whether or not she believed in God. Stephanie admits to Tate on the beach that she was actually Agnostic or Atheist, and had lied in the moment and said "Yes." During the flashback of the shooting, this event appears to have not actually occurred. Tate appears to not speak to anyone before killing them. Stephanie was the first to be killed in the library. She was shown hiding amongst the bookshelves and when Tate pushes books off the shelf, she screams and reveals her location. Tate shot her in the head, exposing her skull and brains.

  • Stephanie is portrayed by Alessandra Torresani.
  • Stephanie reappears in a flashback in "Piggy Piggy".
  • The Columbine High School Massacre victim, Cassie Bernall was believed to have been asked the same question and answered yes before also being shot in the head. In reality, the student who had been asked about her belief and then shot was Valeen Schnurr. She was injured, but survived. Therefore the discrepancy between what Stephanie claims to have taken place and what actually happened could be another Columbine reference.

Kevin Gedman Edit

Kevin is dressed as a punk rocker and is wearing a black leather jacket. He admits to Tate that while he probably would not have accomplished too much in life, some of the other people he killed would have made a difference. During the flashback of the shooting, Kevin runs into the library after the initial gunshots covered in blood. He says it's not his blood, but the blood of another student who was shot near him. Kevin is the second one of the group to be killed by Tate, discovered soon after Stephanie is shot.

  • Kevin is portrayed by Jordan David
  • Kevin reappears in a flashback in "Piggy Piggy".

Trivia Edit

  • The "shooting victims" are as an in-joke crew members: Jay Cannavo is the AHS production assistant, Luke Maxcy is the Director's Guild of America Trainee working on AHS, Josh Sathre is production secretary for AHS, Mark Finstein is a set decorator etc...
  • Reference for "Breakfast club" (1985): In 'Halloween 2', Violet says that the bunch that scares her at the beach (library victims) is "the dead breakfast club".
  • There is a film called "The Evil Dead Breakfast Club" released in 2010.
  • Another 'Dead breakfast club' stars spanish film "Promoción fantasma" (2012).
  • In his school shooting fantasies, Tate's makeup looks similar to the intricate body tattoos of real life model Rick Genest, aka Rico the Zombie.
  • The timeline is similar to the tragic event that occurred at Columbine High School. The event took place between 11:19 am and 12:08 pm. A picture from one Tate's flashbacks/fantasies shows Tate to be handling a shotgun at 11:30 am. Also, a teacher was imminent in attempting to rescue the children though in this case, the librarian lived despite being paralyzed.
WHkillers.jpeg
  • When Violet is looking up information on the massacre, several news internet articles refer to "criminals". Could this mean there was more than one killer?[3] The search results are based on actual search results on Columbine, which is why they cite the "Trenchcoat Mafia", refer to suicides by the perpetrators although Tate did not kill himself and to "suburban Los Angeles" and "unincorporated" (Columbine is both unincorporated and suburban). Another possibility is therefore that the mentioning of "killers" and "criminals" is merely another reference to Columbine. The first article visible in the snapshot is based on the Wikipedia article on the Columbine High School massacre: "occurred on Tuesday, April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School in Columbine, an unincorporated area of Jefferson County, Colorado". The second search result visible refers to a USA Today article to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Columbine massacre, "They weren't goths or loners" [6]. The line of the third article, "wasn't about jocks, goths or Trenchcoat Mafia" is taken from NY Times writer Dave Cullen's book "Columbine" [7].
  • The book on top of the table that Chloe and Kyle hide under was Harlan Beckley’s Passion For Justice: Retrieving The Legacies of Walter Rauschenbusch, John A. Ryan and Reinhold Niebuhr (1992), an examination of three extremely influential Christian theologians and their relevance to ethics, social policy, and responding to injustice. Niebuhr raised the issue of "the perfect disinterestedness" of God and the question "How can the God of love also be the God of justice?"

Theorized References Edit

  • Westfield High is likely a reference to the Virginia Tech shootings. Seung-Hui Cho, who committed the worst single shooter massacre in US history, killing 33 and injuring 25, was an alumni of "Westfield High" in Virginia. "Westfield High" was at the center of a heroin dealing ring among students as well.
  • Evan Peters (Tate Langdon on "American Horror Story") played the love interest of Ashley Rickards (cheerleader Chloe Stapleton on "American Horror Story") on the show "One Tree Hill". Peters played "John Jack Daniels", while Rickards played "Sam Walker". This could possibly make Tate's line to her, "I don't know you," an in-joke.
  • After the Columbine Massacre, it was initially reported that Cassie Bernall had been asked by either Dylan Klebold or Eric Harris whether she believed in God and that she was shot when she replied "Yes, I believe." Bernall was hiding under a table in the library when she was killed, much like Chloe Stapleton in "American Horror Story". In reality, the student who had been asked about her belief and then shot was Valeen Schnurr. She was injured, but survived. This confusion is similiar to the fact that Tate supposedly asked Stephanie Boggs about her faith before killing her, when he actually never spoke.

  • i love evan thomas peters even if i spelled his name wrong I LOVE HIM WITH ALL MY HEART ALSO HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WANT TO MEET HIM SO BADLY PLEASE LET ME MEET HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • get away from this wikia as far as you can, otherwise i'm gonna send infantata to get you. srsly. stop violating poor stephanie's profile with your nonsense "I WUV TATEEEE SO MUCH I'M GONNA PUKE!". grow up.

  • i performed a play called bang bang your dead for my fmp in college and i remember researching all these american high school massacres and shootings and the characters you have in the westfeil high massacre are very simular to the characters in bang bang your dead and even shot in a simular way this would have helped me last year aha but where did you find all th research?

  • The only true reference was Columbine I believe. In meaning, depth and actual occurrence. Tate even resembles one of the shooters but with blonder hair... and the thing with the "Do you believe in God?"... regardless, Murphy pulled this off well and I think people will shit on it but they're ignoring the fact that even the last shooting the other day was in no way like this. Still, people need something to scrutinize I suppose :/

  • So... Virginia Tech.. again. I am a bit speechless. After last night's episode this could easily be related.

  • Anyone as familiar with Columbine as I am has to be taking the idea of this being a production goof with a grain of salt, because this looks like they rewrote everything for Westfield High and conveniently forgot certain parts? Nah. I just think this is a huge effing goof if there weren't two killers. I cannot imagine writing the search results, filming them, and not fixing these things that don't actually disprove a second shooter. They actually blatantly say, criminals/suspects. They can name victims and add two people to the list of those killed, but they forgot to remove the plural mentioning of suspects/criminals? and forgot to take out trenchcoat mafia? I'm not convinced entirely either way because of how many goofs blatant in this show, but I don't like it one bit. Makes no sense.

    • I doubt it has any significance sadly. Stephanie also said that Tate asked her if she believed in god before killing her, though in the actual scene he did no such thing. I'm sure the incorrect plural and the trenchcoat mafia things are irrelevant to anything that will happen in the future.

    • @ Hunter Perry. That is different. I also says so in the text. That's a Cassie Bernall reference, who also was never really asked that.

  • So the house is not the only place where the dead come back. It's true for at least this school, too.

    • Actually, the only reason why the dead students came back was because it was Halloween & if you recall Constance or someone said it is the ONE day of the year where the dead are FREE to walk :)

  • So Tate killed 15 people? How many haunted them? Why only them? Why only the once in the library? What about the others he killed before that? And what about this Kevin Gedman - running in the library and hiding, with "somebody's" blood all over him. He looks like a non-popular guy. I know I'm probably wrong, but it would be cool if he would be the second shooter. He could have seen that Tate is going completely nuts - Tate could have tried to shoot him as well, so he run into the library and hid there, and then got killed. The other ghosts just don't see the full picture since they have no idea or are too fixated on Tate. I know, I know - nobody saw a second shooter. And it's just a wild speculation. But still - why of all the 15 dead only 5 came back? My another theory would be that this 5 where the ONLY ones who didn't "deserve" it in Tate's eyes, but that's stupid - they were all in the library at the same time. Where are the other 10 deadmen?

  • do think the westfleid high masscre is true

  • i think tate should have not been killed over killing thoses 15 people he should of took him to jail

    dont u think so

  • Wait, why is there a Spoiler tag here?

    • Because the page had information on it that to my knowledge hadn't been aired - such as the date of the shooting, the number of students involved, and the full names of all the students from Halloween Part 2, but I can remove it if you would like.

    • OK. Understood now. My initial gut reaction is that it's not truly spoilerific unless it's revealing plot points, which "number of victims" might be considered. The date (or at least year) could be reasonably extrapolated from comments in H:P2. I don't think the student full names should be considered spoilers any more than if we pulled them off IMDB.

    • Well, it's fine, if you don't feel it's spoilerish I'll take it off. No big.

  • The "citation needed" for the time is a tad odd though... the pic with the clock is right next to it. ;)

    • So you're presenting a 'factual' of the timeline of when he entered the classroom, based on a screenshot? What if that's the a photo of the last person he shot? So 11:30 is the ending time? Citation is put there because there aren't any specifics as to the # of people or when he started shooting. Now, if it is presented in Halloween: Part 2 (because I honestly am an episode behind), that should be cited there. :) But photos aren't necessarily a great source of citation.

    • I get your point... But at the end of the shooting he's covered in blood (there is a spoiler pic of that around). It is the beginning. But hey, we can wait till Wednesday.

  • I'd like to set a "fluffer" or two on this article to make it more like R. Franklin/Murders. :-)

    • lol I like the idea of calling editors 'fluffers'.

    • LOVE IT! Love the new layout. Let's keep it that way: I write text and upload pics and then the heavenly fluffers make my woeful efforts look good and tidy. :)

    • That settles it. I will now be informally referring to myself and fellow hardcore contributing editors as "fluffers". Enjoy the new title. No, you can't have business cards.

  • Westfield High was the school attended by both the perpetrator and two of the victims of the Virginia Tech shootings in April 2007.

  • The Cassie Bernall/God story from Columbine has been proven to be false. One of the other female victims was asked that question, but survived.

  • Who wants to bet with me that the punk's name starts with an E? Cause with Tate the initials would then spell "CASKET".

  • That's fine with me.

  • These characters are going to be featured in Piggy Piggy, so they may actually require their own individual character pages eventually.
