As for a bit of a recap, the main theme was that we were introduced to Briarcliff Manor, the new setting for the show, like last season's "Murder House." At first, we see a decrepit modern day version of Briarcliff when Adam Levine's Leo and his new bride are on the final stop of their mission to fornicate in America's most haunted locations. Yes, really. The scenes with the lovers are clever bookends to the episode, as the new season mostly takes place in Briarcliff Manor when it was a operating asylum in the year 1964.
That is where we are introduced to the zany new characters, the highlights being Jessica Lange's Sister Jude, Kit Walker, Dr. Arden, Sister Mary Eunice, Lana Winters, and of course, Bloody Face, who wears his victims' faces as a mask. Also we learn that there is a monster/beast thing living in the woods behind Briarcliff and that Kit had an alien experience. Or maybe it was hallucinations. We don't really know yet.
