Theory: namespace[]

  • The full discussion can be found here, in the Community Portal.

We have been experimenting with a process to overhaul theories for characters, plots, and anything on the Wiki. We have implemented a new set of Templates to make these very special. The difficulty now is putting these alongside other articles or elsewhere while preserving the ease of creating new ones and providing space to discuss them. There is a proposal to put these in a separate namespace, which would ease the organization significantly. An argument against this is that we are only allotted 3 such custom namespaces for the lifetime of the Wiki (of which we have not used any at this time). Should we use the precious spot, or is there something more worthy to use it on in the long run?

The new system also eliminates the need (but not the possibility) of /Theory subpages. The individual theories can now be found in lists on individual pages, and each theory discussed independently. New and existing /Theory pages can be made or modified and do not require duplication.

Commentary / Interview article format[]

On Episode Commentary pages (usually found under /Commentary for each episode), we have never had a very consistent format, and we need to establish some consistency. Please vote on which format looks the best to you.

Style 1

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY
So this episode is called “Nor’easter.” Obviously you all had no idea that the timing would be so crazy with Hurricane Sandy hitting?
RYAN MURPHY
No, it’s very strange and somewhat sad. We wrote this script I think in June. We based it on several big 50s and 60s Nor’easters that hit the East Coast, obviously not as severe as the one that just hit. It’s very eerie.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY
I was sorta amazed by Lily Rabe. She’s so angelic and this transformation was really scary.
RYAN MURPHY
Yeah I think she’s really enjoyed it, but I mean she’s such a great actress. It’s interesting to do a possession that’s not like the one we did in the second episode that’s the crazy voice. This is a much more sly devil, a more sly Satan. I like the idea of the devil as ambitious.

Style 2

Is the devil’s goal in this to just destroy everyone?
Oh nooooo. The idea is a very provocative one. The true devil is the devil in your midst who has power and a smile and has their eye on a bigger prize. She has her eyes on a much bigger prize which is coming up in the next couple episodes.
Will she keep manipulating and pushing Judeover the edge, though?
Yes. That’s, like, the best thing ever. She has a line I believe in the fourth episode that’s “The devil knows everything.” She can really manipulate people particularly people like Jude who are having troubles with their faith.

Style 3

You had said before that Jessica’s monologue before movie night was your favorite moment with her so far?
I think so. I love the writing in it. She’s never really played a drunkard in her career so her doing this big drunk monologue that has both comedy and tragedy sometimes within a single minute and I think she just killed it. I think its really brilliant and tragic and it contains my favorite line she’s ever said, which is “Charles Laughton is an enormous whoopsie.” I thought that was really quite brilliant. Jessica Lange talking about Charles Laughton is just great. I know it was very challenging and she had a great time doing it. It was just a master class in acting.
When she’s searching for The Mexican, does she see one of the aliens?
Yes that is the alien. We were very careful not to show too much but now with the power of screen savers…

Spoiler Separation & Sunset[]

  • The full discussion can be found here, in the Community Portal.

In revamping Theories, we developed a workable concept for doing something similar for spoilery material. It involves a bit of work and development, but may be very well worth it.

To some people, things in previous seasons are still possibly spoilery. Some of us are up to date. At some point, many would consider that no spoiler is safe, and all secrets are free. For pages that contain spoiler information (like /Spoilers), these pages will never be changed again, and are "dead wood". At what point do we wish to "sunset" or delete these pages?

Under the new concept above, we would not need to explicitly do this.

Thank you for voting! The results will be recorded on November 21, 2012.
