I really wanted it to be like alchemy. If it's teleportation then it would make zero sense. Transmutation could be a powerful gift, a gift that worths to the Supreme, but teleportation? Myrtle clearly can teleport and based on what we have seen, teleportation has a range limit. I mean she probably can't teleport to Rome and teleport back to New Orleans. I hope it's a mistake or teleportation can be done via transmutation, I mean like all transmutaters are teleporters but teleporters are not transmutaters.
We'll all know (hopefully) after the next episode.
I like the idea of it being Transmutation.
It's annoying that they've made this huge mistake. The two can't really be related, although the theries on this thread are interesting. I don't understand why they don't simply call it what it is - teleportation. They've made it quite clear in the trailer that they consider teleportation to be transmutation, which is ridiculous.
I'd wait to see the episode tomorrow before jumping to such conclusions.
Well, is it possible that teleportation is like a sub-category of transmutation? If transmutation is the ability to change form then perhaps a witch can transform herself into air and then change back to flesh and blood.
And i don't know if this means anything but World of Warcraft, a very well-known MMORPG, also classifies teleportation as a type of transmutation (as seen here: http://wowpedia.org/The_Schools_of_Arcane_Magic_-_Transmutation).
The names for the Seven Wonders are likely very old and were labeled as such centuries ago when these words had different meaning than they do today. Trans is a Latin noun or prefix, meaning "across", "beyond" or "on the opposite side". Latin mutare, meaning "to change".
THANK YOU.
This debate should really be over by now. Just watch the new episode.
Maybe they teleport through transmutation, I mean, they transmutate into air, move as air to another position, and transmutate again into their shape. At least that's the only relation between transmutation and teleportation I can think of.
I love that people (no one specifically here, just in general) are up in a big frenzy over this "mistake" made by the writers.
For one, it's fiction, which, believe it or not, gives the writers the freedom to do what they want.
I like that you guys are very open-minded about it, and not laying into the writers. Because, really, in the long run, does it matter? Transmutation could very well have other abilities attached to it as well. Maybe this was just the way they wanted to classify it. Also, tThe meanings of the Latin roots of "transmutation" support the shows decision, so, like Powder said, the debate should be over.
I totally wanted to post something about WOW when I made my first post in this thread, but I already feel like a big enough nerd in my life, so I didn't. I'm glad you did though, Dylan, because it shows that the writers of AHS aren't the only ones who see teleportation as a derivative of transmutation. :-)
I'm just happy that we finally know what the seven wonders are. :-D
