André Holland (born December 28, 1979) is an American actor who has appeared on stage, television and in feature films. He made his debut on American Horror Story as Matt Miller in the 'My Roanoke Nightmare' mockumentary in season six, Roanoke.

Career

Holland has attended Florida State University and New York University and from the latter holds a degree in fine arts in 2006. Holland's first stage performance was in Oliver at Birmingham Summerfest Theatre, at the age of eleven. He has since starred in several stage productions.

Among the roles that have taken him to receive accolades from critics and awards there are certainly The Whipping Man by Matthew Lopez and won the Vivian Robinson / Audelco Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance. He later starred as the political and activist Andrew Young in Selma (2014). For his performance he was nominated for an Image Award and a Black Reel Award.

From 2014 plays the role of Dr. Algernon Edwards on the television series The Knick, alongside lead actor Clive Owen. Besides being part of the artistic cast of The Knick which won a Satellite Award for best cast of a television series, his performance earned him a candidacy to the Satellite Award for Best Television Actor

Trivia

Hollandr's role in My Roanoke Nightmare is his first appearance in a season of American Horror Story
